群の作用を持った空間に対して, 通常の代数的トポロジーの手法を拡張して調べる手法がある。 考える空間が多様体の場合は,
変換群論と呼ばれることが多く, surgery theory が応用できる分野でもある。Tao の このblog post では,
群の空間への作用のことを力学系と言っている。 一般には \(\R \) や \(\Z \) の作用のことを力学系というのだろうが。
一般に, 群の作用を考えない理論に対し, 群の作用も込めたものの理論があるときには, それに “equivariant (同変)”
という形容詞を付ける。 例えば群の作用を持つ空間のホモトピー論は同変ホモトピー論 (equivariant homotopy theory)
という。
Spectrum の場合, つまり equivariant stable homotopy theory では, May
などによる基礎付けが重要である。それは [Elm+97] での, coordinate free spectrum の基礎にもなった。
位相群を距離空間の等長変換群として表わす問題については, このMathOverflow の質問で議論されている。それによると,
Niemiec の [Nie13] で必要十分条件が得られているようである。
多様体を有限群の作用で割った空間を, より精密化および一般化した orbifold を考えるのも一般的になってきた。群の作用からは
groupoid が自然に得られるので, より広く, topological groupoid の幾何学を考えている人もいる。 また群の作用を
groupoid の作用に拡張して考えることも行なわれている。 例えば, Emerson と Meyer の [EM09] では, groupoid
の作用で equivariant な vector bundle が考えられている。
群の位相空間への作用を topological groupoid とみなすのは, 商空間を考えることによる不具合を修正するための一つの方法である。他には,
Borel construction, つまり homotopy colimit, や topos として考える方法や hrefCstar.html\(C^*\)-algebra
を用いる方法もある。 これらについては, Cartier の [Car01] の §6 に簡単な解説がある。
