有限距離空間

有限個の点から成る位相空間は, finite space と 呼ばれるが, preordered set との対応など, 様々な興味深い性質がある。 位相が \(T_1\) だと discrete なってしまうので, \(T_{0}\)-space が研究対象である。 特に, 有限集合上に距離を定義しても, 離散位相空間になるだけなので, finite space の視点からは, 面白いことは無さそうに思える。

ところが, 有限距離空間は, 実生活に関連して様々な場面で登場する。 特に, 近年では, トポロジカルデータ解析の視点から調べられることが多い。 他にも, 有限距離空間を調べる方法は, 様々な視点から考えられている。

Lawvere [Law73] による, 距離空間を非負の実数の成す poset \(\R _{\ge 0}\)で enrich された small category と見なすという視点から, Leinster と Willerton [LW13; Wil; Lei13]は, 有限距離空 間に対して, Euler 標数が定義できることに気がついた。それを magnitude と呼んでその性質を調べている。

Willerton は, [Wil] で色々計算を行なっている。 生物学の文献 [SP94] にも独立に登場しているらしい。

Vershik [Ver15] は, 有限距離空間から, fundamental polytope という凸多面体を定義し, その組み合せ論的性質から有限距離空間を調べることを提案している。 その多面体は, 最適輸送問題との関連から, Kantorovich-Rubinstein polytope とも呼ばれている。 実際, Vershik の動機は最適輸送問題のようである。

他にも, やはり最適輸送問題に関連したものであるが, Kantrovich と Gavurin [Kan42] により考えられた, transportation cost space というものもある。

Ostrovska と Ostrovskii の [OO] では, もう一つ Kantrovich と Gavurin の1949年の論文が挙げられていたが, 入手は難しそうである。MathSciNet にも書誌データは無かった。
