圏の局所化

\(\bm {C}\) において, morphism の集合 (class) \(W\) に含まれる morphism の形式的な逆を付け加え, 圏 \(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) を作りたいということはよくある。 例えば次のような場合である。

何となく \(\Z \) に \(\frac {1}{p}\) を付け加えて \(\Z [\frac {1}{p}]\) を作る操作に似ているので, Gabriel と Zisman の本 [GZ67] では category of fraction と呼ばれている。まず最初は Fritz の [Fri] を読んでみるのがよいだろう。 Toën の dg category についての lecture note [Toë11] や Krause の triangulated category の localization に関する note [Kra10] の最初の方にもまとめられている。

\(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) は functor \(L:\bm {C}\to \bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) の持つ universal property で定義 (特徴付け) される。つまり, \(W\) を isomorphism にうつす functor \(F:\bm {C}\to \bm {D}\) が与えられたとき, 図式 \[ \xymatrix { \bm {C} \ar [dr]_{F} \ar [rr]^{L} & & \bm {C}[W^{-1}] \ar @{.>}[dl]^{\exists \widetilde {F}} \\ & \bm {D} & } \] を「可換」にするような \(\widetilde {F}\) が「一意的」に存在する, いう感じである。

ただ, この可換性や一意性の意味は文脈による。それは圏全体が \(2\)-category になるからであり, 例えば, strict に図式が可換になることよりも, up to natural isomorphism で可換になる, という条件にする方が融通がきいて良い場合が多い。 また, その natural isomorphism にも uniqueness を要求することもある。 このような, localization の定義の違いについては, Govzmann, Pištalo, Poncin の [GPP] を見るとよい。

\(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) を作るには, \(\bm {C}\) の morphism と \(W\) の morphism を形式的に逆向きにした morphism からできる quiver で生成された free category (path category) を適当に割ればよいが, それだと morphism が具体的にどういう形をしているのかがよく分からない。そこで Gabriel と Zisman は, \(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) の morphism が \(s\in W\) により \(c' \larrow {s} c \rarrow {f} d\) と表せるための条件を考えた。

  • \(W\) が calculus of left fraction を持つときの \(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) の構成
  • \(W\) が calculus of right fraction を持つときの \(\bm {C}[W^{-1}]\) の構成

Gel\('\)fand と Manin の本 [GM03] では, localizing system という言葉が使われている。

Kahn と Sujatha は [KS07] で functor \(T : \bm {C} \to \bm {C}'\) が category の同値 \[ T : \bm {C}[W^{-1}] \longrightarrow \bm {C}'[(W')^{-1}] \] を誘導するための条件について考察している。

圏の局所化を考えるときに, ホモトピー論的な視点で考えた方がよいということを発見したのは, Dwyer と Kan である。彼等は, [DK80b] で, simplicial category \(L_{W}(\bm {C})\) を構成し \[ \pi _0(L_{W}(\bm {C})) \cong \bm {C}[W^{-1}] \] となることを示している。また [DK80a] で, その改良版として hammock localization や colimit による simplicial localization を得ている。

そのアイデアは, Drinfel\('\)d による dg category の quotient の構成 [Dri04] にも使われ (現われ?) ている。

モデル圏での hammock localization と left あるいは right homotopy との関係は Raventós [Rav15] により調べられている。

より高次な圏でも, 同様のことが考えられている。 例えば, Baas, Dundas, Richter, Rognes [Baa+13] は, elliptic cohomology の幾何学的な構成のために, 二つの monoidal structure を持つ category (rig category あるいは bimonoidal category) の一つの monoidal structure に関する “group completion” を考えている。Monoidal category は object が一つの bicategory と考えることができるので, monoidal category の “group completion” は monoid の group completion の categorification と考えることができる。

Dwyer-Kan の localization の \((\infty ,1)\)-category version は, Hinich [Hin16] により考えられている。

古典的な高次の圏で最も一般的なのは, bicategory であるが, Pronk ら [Pro96; PW14] は bicategory に対し “category of fraction” の類似を導入している。 Tommasini [Tom16] が改良版を定義している。

Tommasini は [Tom] で bicategory of fraction を行なってできた bicategory が weak fiber product を持つための条件を調べている。

普通の small category に対しても, このような高次の圏の構造を用いて localization を定義してもよい。実際, Paoli と Pronk [PP14] などがある。

応用としては, Roberts の [Rob16] などがある。

他には, semi-localization というものもある。 Gran と Lackの [GL16]では Mantovaniの [Man98], Pedicchio と Rosický の [PR00], Rosický と Tholen の [RT07] が参照されている。
