ファイバー束の概念の高次化が, 様々な場面で必要になってきている。 良く知られたもの, そしてかなり古くから研究されているものとして
gerbe がある。これは line bundle の高次化である。
構造群を Lie 2-group にしたものも考えられている。 Nikolaus と Waldrof の [NW13] を見るとよい。 Ginot
と Stiénon [GS15] は principal \(2\)-group bundle と groupoid extension との関係を調べている。
また, 高次のベクトル束は, elliptic cohomology の幾何学的構成のための候補の一つである。 ベクトル束だけでなく,
ファイバー束の高次版を考えている人もいる。 例えば [Woc11] など。
Bouknegt らの [Bou+02] では, bundle gerbe module という概念が定義され, それを用いて \(K\)-theory
の類似が定義されている。
ある空間上の \(2\)-vector bundle の成す bicategory の構成については, Nikolaus と Schweigert の [NS11]
がある。
\(2\)-vector bundle を 楕円コホモロジーの構成のために用いる試みについては, Baas と Dundas と Rognes の
[BDR04] がある。 その orientation や connective structure について, Kragh が [Kra13]
で考えている。
- oriented \(2\)-vector bundle
楕円コホモロジーの実現のためには, conformal field theory を用いるという Segalのアイデアもあるので, conformal
field theory と \(2\)-vector bundle の関係を知る必要がある。これについては, Segal が [Seg07] の最後で少し書いているが,
それを詳しく調べたものとして, Amoreo と Devoto の [AD] がある。 Conformal field theory ではなく, 2次元の
topological quantum field theory との関係であるが。
2次元の topological quantum field theory は, 可換な Frobenius algebra と同等なので,
Frobenius algebra の bundle のようなものから, 楕円コホモロジーが作れるとうれしいわけであるが, Moore と Segal
[MS] によると, そのようなものは Frobenius manifold と同じらしい。そして Amoreo と Devoto [AD]
は, semisimple Frobenius manifold から maximal Cardy fibration を取ることにより
Baas-Dundas-Rognes の \(2\)-vector bundle ができることを示している。
高次の vector bundle 上で, gauge theory を行なおうという試みを Baez と Schreiber が [BS07]
で行なっている。
直接 elliptic cohomology と関係あるかどうか分からないが, ファイバー束の categorification である
\(2\)-bundle という概念を定義することも試みられている。[Bar] などである。そこに はprincipal \(2\)-bundle
を分類空間へのホモトピー集合で分類することが目標である, と書いてある。
別の方向での高次化としては, \((\infty ,1)\)-category を用いて higher coherency condition を記述した bundle がある。
Bunk の [Bun] では \(\infty \)-bundle と呼ばれている。
