Hopf ring

Hopf ring は, Ravenel と Wilson [RW77; RW80] により導入された概念である。 Ravenel と Wilson の論文, 特に [RW80]は読みやすい。 また Wilson による解説 [Wil82; Wil00] もある。最も新しい [Wil00]は, “soft introduction” として書かれたものらしい。 Hill と Hopkins の [HH] の section 1.1にもまとめがある。 そこでは, 一般の symmetric monoidal category で cocommutative comonoid (coalgebra) の category での commutative ring object として定義されている。可換性を仮定せず, 単に ring object と定義するのがいいと思うが。

2016年11月9日の 信州トポロジーセミナーでの講演で, 柏原氏は coalgebraic ring と呼ぶことを提案していた。Wilson 自身, 彼の解説 [Wil82] で, “coalgebraic ring” と呼ぶべき, と書いている。 Coalgebra の category での ring object なのだから, 妥当な名前である。 しかしながら, Ravenel と Wilson の論文で “Hopf ring” と呼んでしまって, それが定着してしまった, ということのようである。 残念ながら coalgebraic ring という呼び名は一般的にはなっていないようなので, ここでは Hopf ring と呼ぶことにする。 Hill と Hopkins も Hopf ring と呼んでいるし。

Ravenel と Wilson は, 積を持つ spectrum \(E\) に associateした 無限ループ空間 \(E_0, E_1, \ldots \) のホモロジーを調べる際に, 積を与える写像 \[ \circ : E_m \times E_n \longrightarrow E_{m+n} \] が非常に有効であることを発見した。この写像が, bar spectral sequence の間の写像を誘導するからである。

Boardman と Johnson と Wilson の [BJW95] にあるように, 一般ホモロジーでの unstable homology cooperation と密接な関係にある。

Wilson を中心に, 様々な ring spectrum に associat eした \(\Omega \)-spectrum の Hopf ring が計算されている。

別の系統のものとして, Giusti, Salvatore, Sinha の [GSS] がある。 最初に Hopf ring の構造を発見したのは Strickland と Turner [ST97] のようであるが。

  • 対称群のコホモロジーの成す Hopf ring

Giusti らの論文で調べられているのは mod \(2\) cohomology であるが, 奇素数版は, Guerra の [Gue17] で調べられている。

Guerra [Gue] は, type \(B_{n}\) の Coxeter group の場合の Hopf ring 構造を調べている。また type \(D_{n}\) の場合は Hopf ring にならないが, それに近い構造を持つ。それを記述するために almost-Hopf ring という概念を導入した。

Hopf ring は commutative coalgebra の圏の ring object であるが, [BH96] では commutative algebra の圏の co-ring object が扱われている。
