ある圏 \(\bm{C}\) が モデル構造を持つときに, その圏での simplicial object や cosimplicial object
の圏にモデル構造を持ってくることができる。これは, Reedy が有名な未出版の論文で考えたことである。Reedy の preprint は
Hirschorn のホームページから download できる。
Reedy の議論は, simplicial object だけでなく, \(\Delta \) と同じような性質を持つ small category \(R\) からの関手のなす圏 \(\category{Funct}(R,\bm{C})\)
でも適用できるため, その性質を抽象化して Reedy category という概念が定義された。
Reedy category の基本的なことについては, Riehl と Verity の [RV14] を見るとよいと思う。ただ,
この ShulmanのMathOverflowでの質問 (とその解答) によると, 定義には微妙に異なるものが2種類あるようで,
気をつけた方がよい。
例としては, \(\Delta \) 以外には, finite poset が基本的である。 そして opposite や product を取る操作でも閉じている。
Reedy category を定義域に持つ関手の圏のモデル構造については, 詳細は [Hov99] や [Hir03] や [Dwy+04]
などのモデル圏の教科書にある。
Reedy category の間の functor としては, 当然その構造を保つものを考えるべきである。Hirschhorn と
Volić [HV] は, そのようなものを Reedy functor と呼んでいる。彼等の目的は, model category \(\bm{M}\)
が与えられたとき, 2つのReedy category \(C\) と \(D\) の間のReedy functor \(f:C\to D\) から誘導された functor \(f^*: M^{D}\to M^{C}\) が left あるいは
right Quillen functor にな る条件を求めることである。そのような条件として fibering と cofibering
という条件を導入している。

Reedy category の一般化としては, まず Angeltveit の enriched version [Ang08] がある。Berger と
Moerdijk は, [BM] で dendroidal set や cyclic set などにも適用できる拡張を考えてい る。Bergner と Rezk
[BR] は, sub-multicategory を用いた multi-Reedy category の概念を用いている。

Shulman [Shu] は, functor の bigluing という操作に基づいた Reedy model structure
を特徴付けることを考えて, それにより Reedy category の一般化が考えられると言っている。
Generalized Reedy category の中で Eilenberg-Zilber category という class を Berger ら
[BM; MN] が定義している。Hackney ら[HRY]は, 彼等の up to homotopy properad の研究で出てくる
graphical category が Eilenberg-Zilber category であることを示している。
